Dear friends!

Our site is devoted to the Kalevala area. It is a story about our homeland that we love very much. We wish the guests of our site feel like visiting this beautiful land to see the sights of the Kalevala villages, to enjoy the nature and to meet the indigenous people of this place. One can see sites of primitive people, sacred stones of the aboriginal population, monuments devoted to the famous epic tellers, paths of hawkers, memorial places of the military history and many other points of interest situated in our region. Our nature is unique. There are a plenty of big and small lakes. Our forests are rich in animals, berries and mushrooms. It is no wonder that artists aspire to come here. This area is the home of the world-famous epos “Kalevala”. The special energy of this land has been giving rise to great talents for more than two hundred years. They were both renowned epic tellers and narrators of folk tales and world-famous writers, artists, composers, actors and well-known people of other fields of activity. The national and historical traditions of the region have been maintained. They are realized in local holidays and folk festivals now. If you get acquainted with our land for the first time, you will know a lot of interesting things. Experts on study of local lore can try and grasp the meaning of the pages below, because they are the result of the work of many people, who love their homeland and who deeply appreciate and cherish its history.

Respectfully, the head of the Kalevala national region Vladimir Stepanov.
