Forests
Kalevala is known as territory of a photogenic pine taiga. Wood is the main natural resource of the area and a basis of economy. The age of some trees that are situated in territory of the planned natural park “Kalevalsky” exceeds 400-450 years.
Lakes There are a lot of lakes and rivers with transparent clean water and beautiful landscapes in the region. The system of lakes Kuitto stretches for 140,00 km.

Falls Falls Kyaunas, Hyamsky thresholds, river Pisto fullof rapids are picturesque. There are three picturesque falls on the river Voinitsa on the distance of 2 km. The height of falling of the biggest threshold Kumyo is almost 18 meters. Its noise is heard for two kilometers, and untouched forests and a split channel make the falls be extraordinary beautiful and majestic.
 Bogs Bogs occupy the major part of the territory. You can meet set of rare and unique kinds of plants. There is the biggest bog of Karelia – Upyaujshuo(23 km) in Kalevala region.
Four seasons in Kalevala
Berries, mushrooms You can find a lot of cowberries, a bilberry, cloudberries, a cranberry and various kinds of mushrooms in Kalevala’s forests.
Hunting and fishing Kalevala’s lakes and rivers represent great opportunities for winter and summer fishing. There are 12 kinds of fish, salmon, sig, umber are the most valuable. The fauna is various in forests: there is a lamb, a bear, a wolf, a lynx, a glutton, fur animals. It is possible to hunt wood-grouses, blackcock, hazel grouses, a waterfowl.
Safari on deer You can have a ride on deer and snowmobiles in the winter in Kalevala. The way passes through winter woods, lakes, bogs and deserted Karelian villages
 Rivers alloy Various water routes are developed: on lakes Kujtto youmay travel by boats, canoe, and also a water ski, surfing. There is a possibility for amateurs to travel by kayak, and rubber rafts in Pisto, Kepa and Voinitsa.
